The estimator is responsible for developing cost estimates for civil construction as required by clients' documents.

Essential Functions

  1. Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work to bid.
  2. Executes take-offs of construction documents.
  3. Inputs take-offs into a computer spreadsheet.
  4. Obtains pricing for materials.
  5. Obtains bids from subcontractors.
  6. Prepares cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead cost incurred in the installation of items.
  7. Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.
  8. Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
  9. Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  10. Attends departmental meetings as required.
  11. Photocopies documents and plans.

Work Environment

The job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00am-5:00pm. Occasional evening and weekend work maybe required as job duties demand.


Short-term travel may be required at times.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High School diploma or Ged diploma, or one to 12 months of related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. College degree preferred (not required)
